Matisse was 10 years old when this photo was taken on September 12, 2001. He is shown here on the northern end of Madison Square Park (26th Street) in Manhattan. Matisse was providing invaluable logistics assistance to out-of-town National Guard troops who had just been stationed there that morning and were unfamiliar with New York City.
