Tribute to Casey1996-2010
Casey was a member of the Walker family (Betty, Tim and Ruth) of Westport, Connecticut, who are good friends to National Pyr Rescue and other rescue groups. She was a beautiful, friendly dog who will be sorely missed. Casey and her family made many home visits for National Pyr Rescue (and Northeast Pyr Rescue as well). Her wonderful personality was instrumental in helping many other Pyrs find their forever homes.

Casey Walker
Following is an excerpt from Casey's obituary, which appeared in the April 5 edition of WestportNow.com:
Casey Walker, a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees, died peacefully Monday, March 29 surrounded by her family.
A Westport resident since June 1999, Casey was a familiar and respected member of the dog park community at Winslow Park and Compo Beach where she walked every afternoon for the past 11 years.
How Casey ended up in Westport is another story. At the age of three she was in foster care where Betty and her daughter Ruth interviewed her. As Casey was being introduced she put her front paws on Ruth's shoulders and gave her a big kiss. Smart dog. That was 11 years ago.
Casey loved to swim at Compo Beach in the winter regardless of the weather and water temperature. In summer, she walked at Winslow and played with her many friends.
She even went to the holiday fireworks events, happily watching the displays and the people. She was a fixture at art fairs, sidewalk sales and the Levitt Pavilion, where she would collect hugs from the kids and pats from their parents.
She also did house visits for two Great Pyrenees rescue organizations to give prospective adopters a taste of the breed. On her last outing she met Luke Robinson who is walking from Austin, Texas, to Boston, Mass., with his two Pyrs, Murphy and Hudson to raise money for animal cancer research.
Casey will be missed by all who knew her.
