Tribute to Badger—?-2009

The following tribute was written by Trevor Remers, Badger's owner. The loss he and his family suffered underscores the importance of sturdy fencing to counter the Pyrenees tendency to wander.

We rescued Badger in January 2008, and even though the cost was initially more than I anticipated I fell in love with the stubborn mutt. He became a great family member and my children fell in love as much as I did.

Badger had two regrettable tendencies (both typical of Great Pyrenees): not listening, and wandering — the latter was his undoing.

Badger went missing and we believed him stolen, as the police told us that many purebred dogs had been taken at that time. Our three months of searching were for naught as I found him on a walk one day in the spring. He must have fallen through the ice and not been able to get out.

Badger is buried under his favorite large blue spruce, where he loved to burrow and could watch over the kids. I attach these pictures of him as a tribute to our friend. I am thankful for having had such a majestic and loving friend, and I hope his littermates and their owners keep his memory going for years to come.
