I just happened to come upon your site. What a great job you're doing.I've had 2 pyrs. The first one lived to be 12 1/2 and the 2nd one was thru a pyr rescue and lived to be 10 1/2. I really miss having one. They're not for everyone but there is just somethng about them. They are just so stoic and live to protect their family. They are always on guard, especially at night. When I was pregnant with my 1st child , Abby my 1st pyr always sat right in front of me wnenever someone came to visit. I can't explain it, there's just something about their eyes. I hope to someday rescue another one.

I have been adopted by a stray female Pyr, 2-3 years old, beautiful, sweet, and smart! We've named her Sophie. She needs a "forever home" with a loving family. But, I'll take good care of her until then. She's learning to live with her new sisters~2 Labs and a Jack Russell. We have a house full!

Well it has been 3 months that we have had Diesel whom we rescued through this organization and we are gladly searching to rescue again when the snow has gone and spring is here in Canada we are so madly in love with our boy and he is the biggest suck we have ever had it is true the bigger the dog the bigger the heart, this breed has the biggest heart for his family. He has blended well into our lives and does incredibly well inside while we are out. Our family just can't wait to find him a baby sister. Thank you again for helping us find such a wonderful dog. I have suggested this organization to anyone looking for info on the breed.

I can't begin to adequately express my thanks to Barbara, the director of this organization. Because of her hard work and dedication, I am now the lucky "Pyrent" of Noble, who is an incredible companion.

Barbara put me in touch with another dedicated Pyr rescuer, Jane Rose, of Indy Great Pyrenees Rescue. She & her husband, along with 13 other caring volunteers, took time out of a very busy holiday season, and drove 14 "legs" of a two-day journey that brought my boy to me on December 23, 2007.

The entire adoption process was so simple and stress-free!

I'm now looking forward to participating in future transports of Pyrs going to their new homes.

Thank you for all the info on GP'S. We're currently looking for another dog since our baby Simba passed recently. I had never heard of this breed before but copied info to discuss with my husband. I look forward to reading more info and when the time is right adopt a GP. My prayers are with all of you and these remarkable babies.

I read your story about Zeus. That story touched my heart. thank you.
I had a Big Blond Golden retriever named Zeus. He had a twisted stomach and then I had to put him to sleep. Now I share my home with Thomas (a Great Pyrenees) who is dominating my life.

We adopted our first pyr 2 months ago from a shelter in Ontario, where we live after our 16 year old Shep/Husky died. She is just the most amazing dog. We are now looking for a second pyr to keep her company. There are very few in shelters in Canada; thankfully. We have the word out here ... but a 6 hour drive to Toronto or New York is the same. What a wonderful job your group does. I wish every dog could be saved. It is so horrible what people do. Dogs are for life (and so are cats!) You can only do so much - and I think your organization is just so amazing and hopeful. Thank-you! Maryanne

What a wonderful site and wonderful dogs! I currently have a stray GP in my home based dog sanctuary. She is terrific but was so thin and depressed when I finally snatched her at the side of the road (I had been watching her for two weeks), she could hardly walk. She weighed 71#. She now weighs 87# after one month, has been spayed and has an adoptive home pending. But, honestly, had no one come forward to adopt her, I would have happily kept her. She is a "failed" LGD but a great house dog. Her name is Snow.

We adopted our sweet boy from Andee Anderson great Pyr rescue back in April. We were a bit apprehensive as we already have a Pyr who has run the house for 4 years. All went well !!! The two of them run all over the yard and sleep together. They are a constant source of amusement and fun especially in the morning when everyone wants to say good morning first. Thanks a bunch to Andee for all her hard work in getting us our new son. p.s. we also now have an extended family as we write and talk to our boys brothers parents too !!!

Thank you Tom and Barbara for everything that you are doing to help this wonderful breed. Thanks to you, I was able to adopt Boomer who at the time was 10-at the time, Barbara THANKED ME for taking Boomer-it was me who should have thanked her. I am so happy that Barbara and Tom have set up this Web Site -now I will be able to send donations to help these beautiful animals. I know that there are a lot of Pyr Crosses out there-it is funny, because the first Pyr that my husband I got was a Newfie/Pyr Cross-she was a sweetheart-We bought our first Pyr in 1984 and she had multiple medical problems-thanks to a wonderful Vet, she lived to be 2 months shy of 10. The second puppy we bought was born with a Congential Heart Problem -diagnosed at 8 weeks old she will be 11 in November. The other 6 Pyrs that we have gotten have been Rescues-most of them older. I am hoping that sometime in the future I will be able to get another puppy-thanks to all the work that Barbara and everyone else so heavily involved, I will be able to adopt a puppy. I wish that I was able to do more to help with Rescue, but at this time, the best I can do will be through monetary donations and at time helping to move an animal. Again! Thank You and Good Luck.

Great News regarding this national web-site. This breed can fill so many roles... from pets to working dogs. The most important thing is that the dogs are loved and cared for their whole lives. This site helps this become a reality for more dogs of this magnificent, kind, and too often misunderstood breed.

The National Great Pyrenees Rescue has shown itself early on to be a very effective group of people that are working together toward a common goal - to rescue Great Pyrenees dogs and get them into loving homes no matter what the geographical boundries are. Wonderful dogs from the South are now paired with wonderful people from the North... love knows no geographical boundries. Keep up the excellent work !!

MANY, MANY THANKS to Barbara Mattson for realizing the great need for this "no borders" rescue group and to the many loving, overworked, out-of pocket people who pull dogs from shelters, and various other sources, to foster and perform whatever services are needed until an appropriate applicant comes along. Many of these kind rescuers also have full-time jobs. But they are determined to save the lives of dogs who would otherwise be doomed to a sad life or euthanized. And since a vast number of dogs coming in to rescue need medical care that runs far above the adoption fee, these rescue angels use their own money to cover costs. One rescue person in a southern state spent $15,000.00 of her own money last year to give dogs in her temporary care a chance for a happy "forever home". My wish for this great new website (created by Barbara's husband, Tom) is that it will generate more awareness of the tremendous need for people who love animals and would like to help; whether by making phone calls, doing home visits, driving a portion of a transport route, (dogs transported up from the South are dropped off in 4 areas, then the dogs must be moved from the drop off point to their new homes), or by helping to cover some of the dogs' medical costs. I am so happy and proud to be able to be a very small spoke in this large, very well-run rescue wheel.

I wish this site, and the people behind it, the very best of luck. A genuine national rescue effort on behalf of these magnificent dogs is long overdue.
